You may have noticed that you have a particular behaviour pattern that causes you problems or issues. For example it may be that in relationships they always follow a particular course and you have also noticed that you choose partners who are similar to one another and you want to change that behaviour. Alternatively, it may be that you want to change a specific“tic” such as a twitch, a stutter or a way of thinking. If the behaviour is a“tic” then although psychotherapy and counselling will assist you in living with that behaviour and may even reduce its severity it would probably best be treated in other ways such as hypnotherapy. With the former, repetitive behaviour patterns, then counselling and psychotherapy will assist in you enabling yourself to understand and then address the pattern that you follow. Changes will be gradual and discrete – in fact you will probably be unaware of the changes until they have changed your life. This is one of the most common and beneficial reasons for entering into therapy – it is usually preceded by the simple feeling that “things could be better” or “I wish that I could do that”.
